Why a Mantra Matters

As a therapist I have a strong conviction to practice what I preach. If I’m recommending an action or strategy to a client, it is usually something I have tested over time. I believe the best mantras happened organically.

Focus on What You Control

I didn’t set out to find a mantra, instead as I journeyed to emotional strength there was a core philosophy that I kept coming back to – Focus on What You Control. We only control what we think, what we say and what we do.

If you look at what causes you frustration, anxiety, worry – it’s often things you do not control, so bringing ourselves back to this mantra can relieve unnecessary stress.

My other mantra speaks to the power of choice (you may have noticed this already with my business name). I love the linkage between the two, we can make the CHOICE to focus on what we control or we can live in a state of frustration and worry.

Application Takes Time

I don’t want this to sound overly simple. The concept is simple, the application takes a lot of time and practice. Much like morals and values, mantras can keep you grounded; provide a conviction from which you can make decisions that support your emotional health.
